As many as 17 people die every minute from cancer across the world, according to the WHO. With an aim to unite in the fight against the global cancer epidemic, World Cancer Day, an initiative of the Union for International Cancer Control, would be observed on Monday.
This year marks the launch of the 3-year ‘I Am and I Will’ campaign that stresses on staying active and leading a healthy lifestyle. With an aim to spread awareness about cancer prevention, a bike rally would be flagged off from the HCG Cancer centre in Sola on Sunday.
We chose Sunday instead of Monday for this initiative, so that more people can participate in the rally. It would be flagged off by Panna Momaya, DCP, Zone-II Ahmedabad at 9 am from our campus,” a source from the hospital administration said.
He added, “Till now 112 Amdavadis including cancer survivors, hospital staff, police personnel and avid bikers have registered with us for the rally that would pass through Sattadhar crossroads, Judges Bungalow crossroads, Mansi Circle, Shivranjani, Nehrunagar, Manekbaug, Shyamal and Isckon crossroad.
Speaking further, he said, “Several other related activities are underway at our campus. For instance, in line with the central government directive, we are organising several activities to create awareness on harmful effects of tobacco consumption.
